BYD has officially confirmed that it is in talks with Stellantis and other European car manufacturers regarding the acquisition of underutilized production facilities in Europe. The news was reported by IT Home.
Earlier reports suggested that the Chinese automotive giant was considering the purchase of underloaded factories across Europe. BYD representatives have now confirmed these discussions, although specific details of the negotiations remain undisclosed.
Previously, BYD Executive Vice President Li Ke stated that the company was exploring options to buy or lease manufacturing facilities in Italy and other European countries. The move is seen as part of BYD’s broader strategy to strengthen its position in the European automotive market.
Over the next three years, BYD plans to launch several new models designed specifically for European customers. The first of these will be the Dolphin G hybrid hatchback — the European version of one of BYD’s popular models — scheduled to debut next month.
