GEELY has become the first and only automaker to conduct a demonstration crash test in Europe that significantly exceeds current Euro NCAP safety requirements. The test took place at the UTAC proving ground in France, one of Europe's leading automotive safety testing facilities.
During an international summit focused on vehicle safety technologies and intelligent mobility, the GEELY EX5 EM-i crossover underwent an advanced double side-impact crash scenario. The event was organized by the China Automotive Engineering Research Institute (CAERI) in cooperation with the French testing center UTAC.
Unlike standard Euro NCAP procedures, the vehicle was first struck by a moving deformable barrier at 60 km/h and then propelled into a rigid pole positioned on the opposite side of the vehicle. This test replicates one of the most severe real-world accident scenarios involving multiple consecutive impacts.
The assessment placed extraordinary demands on the vehicle's structural integrity, passive safety systems, and high-voltage battery protection. Engineers also evaluated the vehicle's ability to preserve occupant survival space under extreme crash conditions.
The GEELY EX5 EM-i demonstrated outstanding safety performance. The passenger compartment maintained its structural integrity, occupant restraint systems operated as intended, and the doors automatically unlocked after the collision to facilitate emergency rescue operations.
